How to fit a Spring Pin / Roll Pin…

Here is some helpful information when it comes to fitting Spring Pins, also known as Roll Pins.

Firstly, make sure the spring pin or roll pin is the correct size. These are always listed by the hole size they are fitting in to. For example, a 5mm spring pin, will suit a 5mm hole.

Then make sure the holes in both the Spring Pin, and the hole in your application are aligned accurately so the pin can be inserted smoothly.

Once the pin is aligned to the hole, gently tap the pin in using controlled strikes to avoid misalignment or deformation.

Finally, ensure the pin has a flush fit to the components surface, this will provide a secure connection.

How do I measure a Roll Pin / Spring Pin?

One of the most common issues faced with Roll Pins or Spring Pins, is how to decide what size you require.

However it’s very simple… A Roll Pin or Spring Pin is always listed by the HOLE size it is fitting into. For example if the hole size is 10mm, you will require a 10mm Pin. These Pins are always produced slightly oversized on the outside diameter, to enable them to close down and fit securely into the hole. Using the same size example above, a 10mm Pin will have am outside diameter of 10.5 – 10.8mm, so that it closes down into the 10mm hole.

Each product page on our website for these types of Pins will contain the hole size and the outside diameter measurements to help you decide which Pin you require.

How to use Shakeproof Lock Washers…

Here is some helpful information on the application of Shakeproof Washers / Toothed Lock Washers.

Shakeproof Washers should be placed under your threaded fastener, for example the nut or the bolt or screw. In some applications or assemblies you may have a nut and a bolt, in this instance, place the shakeproof washer in between the nut and the head of the bolt. IMPORTANT! The washer should sit securely against both surfaces.

For removing a Shakeproof Washer, after you have removed the nut or bolt, simply use a flat screwdriver to pry the washer away. Lubricant may also come in handy if the washer has got stuck in the application.

What are Spring Washers?

The primary purpose of Spring Washers DIN 127B, also known as Single Coil Spring Lock Washers, is to offer tension and preload in joint assemblies. This aids in maintaining clamping force and prevents loosening or loss of tension due to vibration, thermal cycling, or other factors. Spring Washers also help to absorb shock and reduce the impact of cyclic loading on the joint, which can improve the durability and lifespan of the assembly. Additionally, Spring Washers can be used to compensate for small amounts of misalignment or to adjust the tension in a joint without the need for additional components.
