Use of a Spring Tension Pin:

Slotted Spring Pins are simply a single coil of steel with an open slot, this will enable the pin
to reduce its diameter, so that it can be easily inserted into the appropriate size hole. The
most common form of Spring Pin is the Heavy Duty type, however Light Duty Spring Pins
can also be manufactured upon request.

How to correctly install a Spring Pin / Roll Pin:

Firstly, make sure the spring pin or roll pin is the correct size. These are always listed by the hole size they are fitting in to. For example, a 5mm spring pin, will suit a 5mm hole.
The pins’ outer diameter is always made oversize, so that it can be closed down to fit into
the hole.
Then, make sure the holes in both the Spring Pin, and the hole in your application are
aligned accurately so the pin can be inserted smoothly.
Once the pin is aligned to the hole, gently tap the pin in using controlled strikes to avoid
misalignment or deformation.
Finally, ensure the pin has a flush fit to the components surface, this will ensure a secure
connection.
