Our company is one that specialises in a rather specific area, namely, that of spring type fasteners. By using our online store, one can discover numerous products for an array of applications. Disc springs are some of the merchandise that we supply and have proven to be a favourite amongst our customers.
A disc spring, with all the variations that they possess, is a tension generating washer. They are used the world over in various industries and products. Uses for them include distributing bearing loads, generating and sustaining the tension levels required to hold assemblies together, and for spanning alignment holes.
Belleville washers, another name for the discs, come with an impressive spring force for short movement and have an exceptional high-energy storage capacity. In proper disc springs, the ratio of substance thickness to rim width is held at roughly one in five. Crown height shouldn’t go past 40% of material thickness and in applications, yield strengths aren’t overshot and the springs return to their full crown height after the compression force is withdrawn.
Commercial washers aren’t held to the specific crown height and thickness ratios needed for true disc springs. Generally, the crown height to thickness ratio is much larger for commercial models. If loaded flat, the yield point can be surpassed. However, springs such as this are typically used for applications where they work completely within their elastic range.
In applications where the components are loaded past their yield point, they shall act in a stable fashion over a diminished crown height. In effect, washers of this calibre have become reformed.
At Caleb Components our disc springs come in a wide array of sizes to suit multiple objectives. If you are confused about how our products function, we have complete technical information on them. Upon request we can issue a specification sheet. Let us know if there’s anything we can do to help.
