How do I remove a cotter pin from a lawnmower?

We stared our business with the intent to supply our customers with high performance spring type fasteners. Stocking an array of these components, including the likes of cotter pins, we have managed to satisfy the requirements of countless individuals, who in turn have highly recommended our merchandise to others. Well priced and available in a plethora of sizes, our pins are the ones for you.

Riding lawnmowers make the task of mowing the lawns a far quicker and simpler process. As opposed to smaller manual devices, these variants possess inflated tires on the wheels. The bigger back wheels are normally held in position via bolts, not unlike that of a car wheel. On the other hand, the more compact front wheels typically employ the use of cotter pins, which penetrate the axle spindle. If the wheel must be removed in order to replace or repair the tire, the pin has to be detached first.

To remove it, begin by placing the lawnmower on a level area and put it in park. To prevent it from shifting, place blocks behind the rear. Next, lift the front end and add supports there to keep everything secure. Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry the hubcap free in order to access the spindle the pin is connected to. If the lawnmower does not come with a hubcap, direct access to the pin and spindle should be available.

Seize the pin’s curved section using pliers and pull it straight out to separate it from the spindle. If the pin’s legs are bent to help maintain its position, make use of the pliers to straighten them prior to pulling the pin. Put the pin aside and disconnect both the wheel and its washers. Once repairs are complete, simply put everything back into their proper places.

At Caleb Components our cotter pins come in a standard bright zinc plated finish. In addition to separate packs, we also have a special kit in stock that includes pin sizes ranging from 1.6mm x 12mm to 5mm x 28mm.
