A relatively simple component that delivers maximum protection

Circlips are vital components in a wide variety of devices, including those that feature motors, turbines, and pistons too. They are load bearing and keep mechanical parts in place, preventing them from flying off when they rotate at high speeds. As a result they are vital for safety and the longevity of devices.

The clips achieve the above because they fit into a groove inside the bore (internal) or one outside of the shaft (external). Once fitted into place in grooves they will be secure and won’t shift due to the rotational force.

All circlips are designed to be flexible and open ended. Many people are surprised that this kind of design is used as a retaining fastener. The parts can function really well though because the open ends create a spring effect. This means they can only be installed and removed by using pliers or specialist tools with certain designs.

The amount of pressure that the circlips create depends on the diameter and the wall thickness. Larger, thicker rings provide more pressure to account for the additional size. They are more difficult to open as a result and protect against higher rotational forces.

There are many different names for the components, including retaining rings, snap rings, and even Jesus clips. It is wise to know these and realise the slight differences in terms of the part. Circlips are the most basis shape, with lugs at each end that feature holes.

At Caleb Components we produce high quality circlips to suit a wide array of requirements, offering both internal and external variants and a selection of designs. We understand how important it is that the components meet the highest standards to ensure they last for as long as possible. We manufacture them with this in mind and have achieved a great reputation as a result.

Our external circlips range from 3mm to 300mm, allowing us to provide components to suit a wide array of different devices and applications.
