FAQ’s on E Clips

Here are some of the most asked questions on E Clips…

  • Q: How do I measure a metric E Clip?
  • A: METRIC are always listed by the GROOVE size on the shaft. E.G. if the groove size on the shaft is 5mm, you will require a 5mm E Clip.
  • Q: What materials are readily available?
  • A: Off the shelf, we offer Carbon Spring Steel or 420 Stainless Steel, with limited sizes available in 316 / A4 Stainless Steel. Other bespoke materials such as Phosphor Bronze or Inconel can be manufactured upon request (please note, MOQs will apply).
  • Q: How to insert an E Clip?
  • A: An E Clip applicator is a great tool to use for inserting E Clips on to a shaft. E Clips are designed to be pushed on from the side of the shaft into the groove not from the front.
  • Q: How do I order the correct Imperial E Clip?
  • A: Imperial E Clips are always listed by the SHAFT size they’re fitting on to. E.G. if your shaft measures 1/2″ (0.50″), you will require a 1/2″ E Clip (N1500-0050)

    How to measure an External Circlip…

    Here are some helpful tips for measuring an External Circlip.

    • Measure from the outside of the widest part of the Circlip, to the inside of the widest part of the circlip. For example, if this measures 15mm, you will need a 15mm external circlip.
    • All our external circlips are listed by the shaft size they are fitting on to. For example, if your shaft measures 20mm, you will need a 20mm external circlip.
