This plating is most commonly used as a corrosion resistance against rain-water, which extends the products life.
The process of bright zinc plating:
- The part is thoroughly cleaned.
- The part is then electroplated using a electrolytic solution which contains zinc. The layer of zinc is then deposited onto the products surface.
- Then, the part goes through the ‘passivation’ process, to help improve its corrosion resistance, and add colour to the parts plating. For example, clear, yellow or black.
- For high-tensile parts, a de-embrittlement process may be applied post treatment, which helps to prevent parts becoming brittle after plating.
- A sealing coat can also be added to the part at the end of the process, to also help with the corrosion resistance.
