External Shakeproof Lock Washers are designed for biting into surfaces. These are generally larger than Internal Shakeproof Lock Washers so are able to create a stronger bite with the surrounding surface.

Internal Shakeproof Lock Washers are used to bite into fasteners, specifically the head of a screw or bolt. which aids in holding the fastener in place.
