External Circlips are designed to be fitted onto shafts with grooves. The circlips can be used as securing device to ensure that either the shaft is not displaced or items upon the shaft are secured in place.

The easiest way to measure an External Circlip is by measuring the shaft size the Circlip is fitting on to. For example if you have a 20mm shaft, you will need a 20mm External Circlip. External Circlips are listed by the shaft size they’re fitting on to.

Alternatively, you can measure the INSIDE diameter of the circlip, and we can then help identify which Circlip you require for your shaft.

E Clips (also known as E Type Circlips) are a basic form of a Circlip. They have the advantage that they can be inserted form the side of the shaft rather than inserting from the end. Also, each E-Clip has flexibility on the shaft size that it will suit.

How measure an E Clip:

A metric E Clip is always measured by the Groove size. For example a 6mm E Clip will suit a 6mm groove on a shaft size between 7 – 9mm. Alternatively if you know the shaft size it’s fitting on to, here at Caleb Components we can tell you exactly which E Clip you need. Our metric E Clips are available in carbon steel and stainless steel.

An imperial E Clip is always measured by the Shaft size. For example if you a 1/2″ E Clip will suit a 1/2″ shaft.

Finding the correct size can be difficult sometimes, so here is how to find the correct size…

External Circlips (DIN 471 / D1400) are always measured by the shaft size the Circlip is fitting on to. For example, if you need a Circlip to fit a 40mm shaft, you will need to purchase a 40mm External Circlip. If you don’t know the shaft size and you already have an existing Circlip, measure the INSIDE diameter of the Circlip and we can find the correct Circlip for you.

Internal Circlips (DIN 472 / D1300) are always measured by the bore size the Circlip is fitting in to. For example if you need a Circlip to fit in to a 40mm bore, you will need to purchase a 40mm Internal Circlip. If you don’t know the bore size and you already have an exisiting Circlip, measure the OUTSIDE diameter of the Circlip and again, we can find the right size of Circlip for you.
